Perspective

"If you want to reach a state of bliss, then go beyond your ego and the internal dialogue. Make a decision to relinquish the need to control, the need to be approved, and the need to judge. Those are the three things the ego is doing all the time. It's very important to be aware of then every time they come up." ~ Deepak Chopra

This morning I came to work and was immediately presented with an euthanasia. Great way to start the day I mumbled under my breath. Then I caught myself.

Before me was a geriatric cat. A cat who was underweight, dehydrated and painful. A being who was suffering. I had the enormous privilege of easing his pain and transitioning him from this world to the next. It was a great way to start the morning.

And I am reminded that this world, truly, is all fiction. Each day, each moment, is nothing more than the stories we tell ourselves.

Tell me. What's your story?

so wise. I've always felt so privileged to be able to provide a peaceful and easy transition to so many animals. Beautiful moment of changing perspective, thank you for sharing and reminding me to strive towards the same.

Although having to see it is time for an animal to be euthanized is very hard for pet lovers, I am very thankful it is an option. That we can choose to end their suffering. However, I just wish I could explain why.

Oh. sharp intake of breath...slow release... We are facing this inevitable moment with our beloved chocolate lab, and although she is not there yet and we are working with a wonderful vet to assure she is not in pain and is still in the place of receiving and giving much love in her remaining days ~ oh. This post is a gift to me, for my Ruby, and for my daily life as a parent of teenage sons and a teacher of young children. I offer you my heartfelt gratitude.
